Re-emerging World and Rural Innovations Network sign a partnership MoU

Re-emerging World and Rural Innovations Network (Villgro), India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding partnership on strategy formulation, business modelling and planning. Re-emerging World will work with innovators and entrepreneurs supported by Villgro as and when needed to facilitate the formulation of growth strategy and business plan for raising investments.

Rural Innovations Network (http://www.villgro.org ) founded in 2004 has worked with over 100 innovators and innovations. Villgro believes many grass roots rural innovations can be successfully commercialized as micro-enterprises that benefit rural consumers and contribute to sustainable wealth creation. In order to achieve that with the support of the Lemelson Foundation (USA), Villgro runs the L-RAMP, a programme established in 2004 to offer recognition and mentoring to innovations that can transform the lives of underserved people. Villgro is currently led by its founder Mr Paul Basil.

Open positions for Associate Consultant /Consultant in Re-emerging World

Are you passionate about applying your knowledge and skills to help solve the social and environmental challenges that the emerging markets are facing? Do you believe in the power of businesses and social entrepreneurs to address these challenges?

Re-emerging World will provide you with the opportunity to get involved in some of these issues in the course of our work as advisor to clients. Your role will have two dimensions: One will be working on client engagements involving consumer research, business model design, process mapping, business and financial plan (40-60% of your time) and the other will be internal desk research and analysis.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

MBA from one of the top B Schools / Post Graduation in Economics/Public Policy
Excellent academic record, interest in finance and economics
At least 2-3 years work experience, preferably in either finance, policy or operations management
Strong MS Excel and PowerPoint skills
Ability to synthesize and consolidate analysis from multiple sources
Passion for developing sustainable solutions to address poverty , social and environmental challenges
Ability to work in a start up firm with its conflicting demands on time and attention
Willingness to travel in India for work , travel will also include visit to small towns and villages

Location: Based out of Kolkata for at least the first 12 months / Bangalore

Helping address the malnutrition challenge in Bangladesh
June 2009

The silent scourge of malnutrition is hacking away at the base of the human capital in the emerging economies. Roughly 50% of the children in the South Asia are malnourished. The irreversible effects of malnutrition in the early years of life result in stunted growth and brain damage. According to World Bank report Individuals lose more than 10% of lifetime earnings because of malnutrition. A country can lose up to 3% of GDP per year.

Re-emerging World has partnered with a Fullbright scholar at University of Oxford and a US based MNC on a project to help address the malnutrition challenge in Bangladesh. The field work in Bangladesh will start from July.
